FAQs

What does it mean to be a part of ISESVC?

Attend bi-monthly meetings with fellow representatives and guest attendees/speaker(s) to engage in conversations about sexual violence prevention, consent, sexual health, and productive relationships (not all coalition meetings will involve guest speakers; ISESVC plans to schedule a plethora of affinity spaces to ensure student-to-student support on our community Discord platform/website when available)

  • Serve as a representative on behalf of your academic institution

    1. Let people know about the coalition

    2. Share productive information. If comfortable, initiate school-specific functions to discuss topics such as gaslighting, supporting survivors of sexual violence, victim blaming, consent, bystander intervention, slut-shaming, LGBTQIA+ and sexual violence, in-school and commuity resources for reporting sexual violence, title IX, restorative justice, red flags in relationships, trauma recovery/ healing, intersectionality, empowering women and gender minorities, etc.

    3. Contribute to the establishment of an ongoing universal list of demands addressed to administration, curriculum-writing departments, board of trustees, etc. in order to combat sexual violence

What roles are involved in ISESVC?

We don’t believe in an imbalance of structural power. All individuals involved serve as representatives for their independent school. That said, there can be multiple representatives from one independent school. Within the role of a representative, individuals can take on responsibilities such as event coordinator, demands committee, public speaker/designated information correspondent, social media coordinator, etc. You will not be expected to take on the responsibilities of multiple positions.

Is ISESVC a non-profit?

ISESVC is a youth-led coalition. We are not officially a non-profit (and have no plans to do so) and do not need any legal paperwork or permits to operate. We want to preserve a close-knit, youth-led community space without the disruption of transactions.

What committees are involved in ISESVC?

  • Policy Committee

  • Demands Committee

  • Peer Support Committee

  • Outreach Committee

  • Communications Committee

  • Ally (individuals)

How does COVID-19 impact the operations of ISESVC?

ISESVC was structured to virtually accommodate the participation of individuals across the country. Our goal is to reach and engage with you. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, coalition-wide in-person events will be extremely limited. We will revisit the conversation of in-person congregations using public health guidance.

Who can join?

Any current independent school student, faculty member, or staff member (except administrators) with views aligned with the mission of ISESVC are eligible for membership in ISESVC. For more information, visit our Terms and Conditions or contact us.

Are representatives elected?

No. An individual may become a representative by filling out the Get Involved form and getting in touch with current representatives.

If joining, how much time should I expect to contribute to ISESVC?

It is our hope that involved individuals commit up to three hours peer week, as needed, to ISESVC. On average, most involved individuals find themselves working 1.5 hours per week.
